Free Camping in Japan. No Problem.

Stay overnight for free at one of the thousands of roadside rest area, expressway station, public carpark. Stay clean and warm by bathing at onsen bath house that are never far away.


Michi no Eki

Michi no Eki- Roadside Station Rest Area

There are over 1,030 roadside station in Japan along major roads. You can park for free overnight, there are toilets and some have showers.

Public Carpark.

Free public car parks by the beach, country roadside and ski resorts are available. There are paid parking lots. Just look for the "P" sign and automatic parking lots such as Times 24H.
The camper is 5 meters long which is the length of a standard car park. However keep in mind that some city streets are narrow and you are driving a large vehicle. Be aware of overhead obstructions as well.

Warning- There is no free or on street parking in city areas. You cannot fit the camper in underground carpark.

Do not park the vehicle on private property without permission or illegally.

The police can issue you with a parking fine which can cost up to 35,000 JPY.




Onsen- Hot Spring Bath House.

There are thousands of hot spring bath house around Japan. They are a popular way to bathe and soak away the stress of the day. Soaps and shampoo are often provided and clean towels borrowed for an extra fee. So don't be shy and do it the Japanese way.

Japan Ferry

Japan by Ferry.

It is possible to take the camping car by ferry between the main islands of Japan. However you must have permission to do so first and early reservation must be made with the ferry company. They will require the vehicles dimensions and information on the vehicle registration.
